Stablecoins are playing a transformative new role in the $350 billion global gaming market, according to a new study published by the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA).

Once primarily viewed as a means of payment and decentralized finance (DeFi) liquidity, fiat-pegged digital assets like Tether’s USDt and Circle’s USDC are now becoming the invisible financial infrastructure that underpins gaming economies.

The BGA report emphasizes that stablecoins provide the necessary predictability and speed for developers to pay creators, price digital goods, and retain players within the gaming ecosystem. By removing the volatility associated with speculation, cryptocurrency tokens and stablecoins enable gaming economies to operate more like traditional financial systems—only faster and more transparently.

The report states that developers are beginning to view these tokens as a “monetary operating system” for gaming’s next growth cycle.

Players prefer stability over speculation

BGA compared the integration of stablecoins into games to successful closed systems such as Roblox and Fortnite, where stable value is key to consistent user spending and creator engagement.

According to the alliance, the top ten Roblox creators earn an average of $38 million per year — thanks to a fixed exchange rate that protects them from market volatility. BGA argues that stablecoins can provide the same predictability and engagement on a global scale.

Amber Cortez, head of business development at Sequence, commented in the report: “Stablecoins transform fragmented, speculative game economies into scalable, player-centric systems”. The BGA report compares stablecoins to other in-game currencies.

The end of gaming and earning

BGA also sees the shift to stablecoins as a direct response to the failure of the “pay-to-play” (P2E) model.

Games such as Axie Infinity suffered huge user losses after the value of their own token plummeted, showing how financial speculation can undermine long-term engagement.

“The success of the gaming industry's largest economies depends on stable value”, the report said. “Stablecoins bring this principle to the open metaverse, turning virtual currencies into real financial rails”.

Several new initiatives have emerged to realize this concept. In May, the Sui blockchain network announced the launch of Game Dollar, a programmable stablecoin designed for gaming transactions and creator payments.

Blockchain game investment rebounded in Q3

Data from DappRadar shows that despite generally low performance this year, venture capital investment in the blockchain gaming industry recovered significantly in the third quarter of 2025, with funding reaching $129 million, the best result for the year.

Thus, total revenue in 2025 amounted to nearly $300 million, although this figure is still significantly lower than the expected $1.8 billion in 2024. Analysts believe that the transition to a gaming economy based on stablecoins could restore investor confidence, as blockchain games will be based on a more sustainable financial model.
